Ride On Toy Troubleshooting Page Print

Kids Wheels Ride On Toy Trouble Shooting page is designed to assist you with the basic checks of the electrical system of your Ride on Toy.
Symptom: Ride on Toy will not run in any speed. High, Low, Reverse when accelerator pedal is depressed.

A.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy Battery not properly connected.

Solutions: Install Ride On Toy Battery per instructions. Make sure connector to main body harness is fully connected.

B.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy Battery Low or Dead

Solutions: Charge Ride On Toy Battery for 18-24 hours (follow Mfg. instructions) Check operation of Ride On Toy charger - it should be warm to the touch. (If you use a volt meter, output should be between 11.1 and 12.5 Volts). If Ride On Toy charger does not get warm, make sure there is power to the wall outlet. Some outlets are controlled by a wall switch.

C.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy Battery Dead.

Solutions: The Ride On Toy battery life is limited, (average 2/3 years if properly taken care of). As the Battery ages it will begin to lose capacity or run time. The overall life of the Battery is maximized with proper care, (follow Mfg. instructions). Do not store Battery in a discharged state, charge it once a month when not in use.

D.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy accelerator switch not operating properly.

Solutions: Replace Ride On Toy accelerator switch part indicated by Mfg.

E.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy motor wires not connected.

Solutions: Ride On Toy motor wire check - Place vehicle in low speed, raise rear wheels off the ground and turn one rear wheel. The other rear wheel should turn in the opposite direction. If the other rear wheel does not turn then you may have a motor wire disconnected.

Symptom: Ride On Toy Short Run Time.

A.) Possible Cause: Ride on Toy Vehicle has to much load.

Solutions: Reduce load on Ride On Toy vehicle. Too much weight, steep slopes, thick grass, sand, etc. or any combination of these conditions can overload the riding toy causing reduced run time. Out side ambient temperature will also effect ride time as the Battery will discharge more quickly.

B.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy Battery is Low.

Solutions: See Solution for "Ride On Toy Battery low or dead" above.

C.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy battery is low or near the end of its life span.

Symptom: One wheel turns but not the other.

A.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy Vehicle is in low or reverse.

Solutions: This is normal, when in low speed or reverse the wheels act like an automotive differential, (without posi-traction). This makes turning easier. If one wheel is motion arrested the other wheel gets all the power. Shifting into high speed gives both wheels full power.

B.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy motor wire is disconnected.

Solutions: See solution for "Motor wire disconnected" above.

C.) Possible Cause: Bad Ride On Toy High/Low switch.

Solutions: Replace Ride On Toy High/Low Switch

Symptom: Ride Toy Stops Intermittently, then restarts after several minutes.

A.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy automatic Circuit Breaker has tripped because of overloading.

Solutions: Reduce load on the riding toy. To much weight, steep slopes, thick grass, sand, etc. or any combination of these conditions can overload the vehicle.

B.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy Defective thermal protector.

Solutions: Replace Ride On Toy thermal protector.

C.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy accelerator switch not operating properly.

Solutions, Replace Ride On Toy accelerator switch.

Symptom: Loud clicking noise heard when Ride On Toy is in motion.

A.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy gears are damaged or stripped.

Solutions: Replace Ride On Toy gearbox motor assembly.

Symptom: Ride On Toy battery makes a bubbling or sizzling sound when charging.

A.) Possible Cause: Ride on Toy battery is being charged.

Solutions: It is normal for some batteries to make some sound during charging, no action is necessary.

Symptom: Ride On Toy wheels spin too much.

A.) Possible Cause: Very rocky surface, wet running surface.

Solutions: Adjust to riding surface.

Symptom: Ride On Toy brakes not working.

A.) Possible Cause: Ride On Toy accelerator switch not working properly.

Solutions: Replace Ride On Toy accelerator switch.

When recharging Ride On Toy rechargeable battery or batteries make sure it is done by an adult in a ventilated area. When replacing any parts of the riding toy disconnect the battery or batteries.

As adult supervision is required with all ride toys, we especially encourage the need for adult supervision with ride-on toys and motorized vehicles. Please ensure that your child wears a helmet with any ride-on vehicle.
